Case example:
The sliding osseous genioplasty is a powerful technique to dramatically change the shape of a patients lower jaw/chin.
In this case example the patient was unhappy with a previous silicone implant which had failed to give him the desired projection and had also become ptotic, giving him a small droopy chin.
The patient had a Class II malocclusion but he was not keen to undergo mandibular advancement surgery.
The decision was made to undergo an isolated
Virtual planning and 3D printed models were employed for his surgery. A planned gap was incorporated into the design to allow for greater vertical lengthening and advancement of the chin. Intraoperatively this gap was filled with bone graft taken from the patients hip via a discrete incision.
